Shrews are one of the more misunderstood animals we get called about, mostly because they are small and mouse-shaped and get lumped in with rodents — which they are not. A shrew is an insectivore, more closely related to a mole than to a mouse, and everything about how it behaves and how you deal with it flows from that. Where a mouse comes indoors seeking your food and your warmth, a shrew comes in hunting — following insects, spiders, worms, and other small prey — and that single difference is the key to controlling it. How do you know you have shrews?

Are shrews dangerous?

How do you keep shrews out?

On the building, seal the ground-level openings a shrew slips through — foundation cracks, gaps at the sill plate, utility and pipe penetrations, gaps under doors, and openings around basement windows — using the same approach and materials as rodent exclusion.
